The celebration the size of last nights has been previously unheard of. I have never seen such joy and craziness about anything in my entire life. Never such happiness for the winner of a super-bowl, or a world series, or American Idol. My city was brought together last night because everyone wanted a leader we could be proud of. A president we deserved and a president the rest of the world could respect.
I went to bed at about 10:30 and lied awake trying not to think about who would win and who wouldn't. My mom came into my room 15 minutes later and the light spilled in. Obama had won. I heard people yelling in the streets and cars honking their horns. I went onto my terrace and started screaming too. "Woooh!" "Yeah!" It was wonderful seeing everyone feel the same emotion. At that moment everyone in my city was united, we were one. It reminded me somewhat of 1976's "Network" where everyone screams out their window. Except this time it would be "I'm sick of Bush, and I want a change!" My mom and I quickly got dressed and ran to Union Square where there were a ton of people screaming and dancing under a huge American flag. It was interesting to see how everyone there were in their 20's. Barack Obama made people want something they never wanted before or were too lazy to do anything about. He gave us hope for a new generation of thinking. It's a wonder how I can tell my children I was alive when our nation elected its first African-American president in history. I just want to say congratulations to Barack Obama, and congratulations to you. Thanks everyone, I guess I don't have to rip your eyes out.
